HELP WANTED

Farm to Cafeteria Cook

The Ecology Learning Center, a public high school in downtown Unity, is looking for an energetic worker to coordinate and support the nutrition program and be a positive role model for teenagers in food service. 

 

Start Date: August 15, 2024

 

Hours: 7:30-3:30

 

Pay: Starts at $16/hour, commensurate with experience.

 

Location: 230 Main Street, Unity (across from Clifford Commons, Bangor Savings) 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Embrace and uphold the mission of the Ecology Learning Center.
  • Meet all state and federal standards in accordance with discrimination and harassment.
  • Create safe, supportive environment in which students treat one another with respect, develop awareness of diversity and celebrate differences.
  • Prepare meals with the support and guidance of the Nutrition Director.
  • Come up with creative ways to support the Nutrition Director; recipe development, preparation and plating of raw produce, etc.
  • Work independently, fulfill duties in a self-guided, timely manner, and make appropriate decisions in alignment with the nutrition programs mission.
  • Assure all dishes are clean and stations are replenished with clean dishes.
  • Manage dish areas and food service areas, guaranteeing they are tidy and floors are swept daily and mopped as needed.
  • Assure garbage and compost are removed from the kitchen area.
  • Assure recyclable materials are clean and dry before it’s brought to the appropriate bin.
  • Set up, breakdown and clean up breakfast service.
  • Set up, breakdown, and clean up lunch service.
  • Assure that proper lunch count is taken.
  • Identify student /staff helpers before beginning food service.
  • Oversee, set up, and break down dish stations for breakfast and lunch.
  • Educate students on best practices of washing and sanitizing dishes with ecological mindfulness.
  • Take inventory and communicate with Nutrition Director about ordering.
  • Replenish daily items in refrigerator from freezers, as needed
  • Restock fresh fruit throughout the day, as needed.
  • Clean and oversee cleaning of refrigerators and freezers (including proper food rotation to remove old products).
  • Pack and label leftovers into appropriate place.
  • Lead kitchen work to include dishes, prep work, cooking, packing, and clean up as needed on a daily basis with oversight from Nutrition Director.
